Science and Mathematics Integrated Activities for Middle School

Science and Mathematics Integrated Activities for Middle School

Автор: Jerry Dwyer,Sonya Sherrod and Katherine Hitchcox

This book contains a series of integrated math-science lesson plans designed for use in K-12 classrooms. The focus is on the middle school level but several of the lessons may be adjusted to suit higher or lower grade levels, according to teacher interest. Each chapter contains three lessons on a particular theme. The descriptions of the lesson plans are self-contained. There is a brief introduction to each theme at the beginning of the chapter and some additional mathematical background is provided in the appendices. Discussion questions and assessment criteria are provided for each lesson. All lessons include a reference to the United States national mathematics and science standards. Materials required are simple and can be easily obtained at neighborhood stores. Assessment questions should be amenable to all participants. Discussion questions are provided, which may extend student thinking beyond the material presented. Interested readers may find the appendices useful for…

Collaborative research of the pedagogical practice

Collaborative research of the pedagogical practice

Автор: Mirjana Sagud

Every culture of the educational institution requires a certain competence profile of practitioners and a level of professionalism that allows the synthesis of theoretical concepts and the practical specific achievements. A collaborative aspect of the action research requires great engagement in its preparation, securing a reciprocal communication, building mutual trust, accepting diversity and personal and professional conflicts. Interdependence of all professionals, shared responsibility for the quality of an educational process and collective focus on a clear vision of an institution, openness towards an unconventional and child-oriented practice. This type of awareness, changing and improving of the educational practice within the framework of real contextual conditions and with active participation of all professionals, is one of the most efficient ways for a continuous occupational improvement of pre-school teachers and building of his or her professional identity.

Antibiotics and their uses

Antibiotics and their uses

Автор: Vinay Kumar,Janendra Nath Srivastava and Anil Bhatnagar

In recent years infections caused by bacteria resistance to multiple antibiotics have been a significant problem. Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has been troubling hospital services all over the world. Another highly infectious disease caused by the species of Salmonella. The disease results from a true food infection because the bacteria can multiply and invade the intestinal mucosa. Effectiveness of three antibiotics was checked in the study: chloramphenicol, tetracycline and erythromycin were tested against Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella typhimurium using agar-well diffusion technique. Tetracycline is highly effective against S. aureus and resistant against erythromycin. S. typhimurium against chloramphenicol in comparison to tetracycline and erythromycin.

Ecological Services Of Green Spaces

Ecological Services Of Green Spaces

Автор: Vijay Kumar M

This book highlights the importance of the urban green space, is often mentioned in planning, However, in many important city for the provision of urban green space is usually limited to the smallest area or population of provisions of the proportion of green area. And the urban green space has offered recreation, maintained other functions such as ecological species variety besides beautification of landscape, the green land of city offers importance space of urban environments and activity. The study was carried out in Ramakrishna mission, to understand the Ecological services streaming to Carbon Sequestration potential, Air Quality, Water Quality, Soil Quality, and Avian Diversity. The Ecological services of green development in the urban areas, includes attraction of bird diversity towards the green space as they provide food and shelter. The book also emphasizes on solution, to solve some of the urban problems like air pollution, flooding, soil erosion, urban heat island,…

Process Design and Control by Nonlinear Analysis

Process Design and Control by Nonlinear Analysis

Автор: Anton Alexandru Kiss

Nowadays it is widely accepted that a strong interaction between design and control exists, and the design of a chemical process fundamentally determines its inherent controllability. Consequently, it is extremely important to realize that the controller and the chemical process form a unit. Therefore, credit or discredit for the excellent or poor results obtained are attributable to one as much as the other. This book provides original insights by considering the integration of dynamics and plantwide control strategies during the process synthesis and design activities. Nonlinear analysis is used as a powerful tool to investigate the state multiplicity of chemical processes such as reactor-separator-recycle systems, and consequently establish the best design and plantwide control strategy. Furthermore, a novel process design and control methodology is developed and applied to various case studies from the chemical industry (e.g. hydrogenation, alkylation and polymerization). The…
