Causality between Bank Credit and Economic Growth in Ethiopia

Автор: Hailegabriel Abebe Fenta

This study empirically examines the causal relationship between bank credit and economic growth in Ethiopia. It can be one of the country specific (time series) evidence concerning the relationship between bank credit and economic growth. The study covers quarterly data from the period 1998 to 2010 which are about 52 observations. In this examination, Granger causality with VECM methodology along with impulse response and variance decomposition analyses are carried out by using selected bank credit and economic growth indicators. The variables are the natural logarithm of real gross domestic product (LRGDP), the natural logarithm of domestic credit (LDC), the natural logarithm of private sector credit (LPRC) and the natural logarithm of public sector credit (LPUC). Stationary tests, selection of optimal lag length and Cointegration tests are also undertaken before the estimation of the models. It can be concluded from the results of the analysis that there is a causal relationship…

Investigation of RHF Contracts in a Supply Chain

Investigation of RHF Contracts in a Supply Chain

Автор: Patrick Walsh

The research in this book investigates the application of an important class of supply contract called the Rolling Horizon Flexibility (RHF) contract. The RHF contract when agreed is the interface, between the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and contract manufacturer (CM) in a serial supply chain. Under such a contract, the buyer (OEM) has to commit requirements for components for each period at the beginning of the agreed planned horizon. The supplier (CM) provides some flexibility to adjust the current order and future commitments in a limited way in a rolling horizon manner. The OEM receives demand from the end customer (EC) and the supplier (SU) supplies the CM. This research reports that little formal documentation exists describing how RHF contracts influence supply chain performance, especially under conditions of high coefficient of variation (CV).This research work investigated two types of RHF contracts; RHF contracts with both stationary and decreasing flexibility…

Analysis of Banking Sector in Selected Countries of South-East Europe

Автор: Tomas Krizek

The book analyzes banking sectors in selected countries of SEE region (South-East Europe), in particular Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia and compares their development with the Czech Republic as it has one of the most advanced banking sectors in the whole CEE region and is therefore very suitable for benchmarking. Three parts of the book analyzing separately each of the countries are supplemented by country comparison and final conclusions. General development, development of banking sector as well as banking market and financial performance of banks are examined. As a conclusion, all the countries develop in a different way and with different starting conditions. Albania relies more on qualitative development with low absolute figures but high relative indicators with respect to the utilization of available resources. The development in Serbia is rather quantitative, in contrary to the situation in Albania. Bosnia and Herzegovina is progressing quite ambiguously also due…

Basel III measures and their impact on the global economy

Basel III measures and their impact on the global economy

Автор: Elsa Allman

In response to market failures revealed by the 2007-2009 crisis, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) has proposed new measures — referred to as Basel III – in order to promote a more resilient banking sector, a global initiative endorsed by the G-20 leaders. However, some have raised concerns with regard to their potential cost and fear over-regulation could stifle economic growth. This paper offers an analysis of the Basel III proposals and of their impact on the global economy in terms of costs, based on the review of selected impact studies. Firstly, it focuses on market failures and assesses whether the new measures will help prevent a financial crisis. Secondly, it determines their potential cost in terms of decrease in GDP. Thirdly, it discusses the impact studies’ modelling issues and future orientations. Today, while countries are transposing the Basel III rules in national law and banks are lobbying against their implementation, this paper sheds some light on…

Next Generation Datacenters in Financial Services: Driving Extreme Efficiency and Effective Cost Savings (Complete Technology Guides for Financial Services)

Автор: Tony Bishop

Financial markets are witnessing an unprecedented explosion in the availability of data, and the firms that survive will be able to leverage this information to increase their profit and expand their opportunities in a global world. Financial firms have two options: to build their own data centers or to outsource them to hosting services such as Google and Amazon ‘cloud’ services. While outsourcing data centers is a trend for small firms, it is not applicable to bigger firms who want more control over their huge amounts of data. Large firms thus build their own data centers. In such an environment, the CIO’s ability is crucial to lead an effective data strategy to capture, process and connect data to all the relevant lines of business. At the core of this strategy lies the data center — the repository of all information. In recognition of the importance of information, firms are rushing to invest in data centers, but they are finding that just throwing technology at the problem is not…
